Supply Chain

Scroll Down

Ocean Winds’ work in the Moray Firth started in 2009 with a programme of engagement which introduced offshore wind as a new concept and a new industry to suppliers, businesses, ports and harbours of the Moray Firth.

Since then, we’ve developed strong relationships with local enterprises, helping to establish a greater understanding of the requirements of the offshore wind sector and to develop market opportunities.

Caledonia represents a major opportunity for Scotland’s supply chain and Ocean Winds is committed to maximising its benefits local businesses, supporting employment and helping the region to play a leading role in the energy transition.

Ocean Winds helped to lead the set-up of the DeepWind Cluster – an organisation that helps members to achieve greater benefits from the development of offshore wind in the UK and internationally. This cluster has now become The Clean Energy Cluster.

Offshore wind is a global industry; the turbines, transformers, switchgear, etc. needed to build an offshore wind farm are not currently manufactured in Scotland.

However, Scotland is already a world leader in offshore site development thanks to its oil and gas and maritime heritage which offers greatly transferable skills and experience. Continued investment is key to ensuring the country builds the capacity required to capitalise on all the opportunities offshore wind will bring.

An important focus is stimulating the capital investment needed to create facilities locally which can be competitive in the global offshore wind component market.

Caledonia represents a major enabling investment for Scotland’s clean energy economy. Working closely with the Clean Energy Cluster, ports, and local businesses, Ocean Winds is helping to secure sustainable value for the Scottish supply chain. The project will support skilled jobs, apprenticeships, and innovation across the Moray Firth – building on Ocean Winds’ established track record of investment in the region.

We recognise the investment in people and infrastructure required to help build Scotland’s offshore wind supply chain needs long-term market opportunities to be worthwhile.

Mark BaxterProject Director

Caledonia is part of Ocean Winds’ 6GW offshore wind portfolio in North East Scotland.

This provides a solid pipeline to help enable the sustainable growth of the local offshore wind supply chain for many decades to come.

Caledonia is actively engaging with suppliers through initiatives across the North East, including the Clean Energy Cluster (formerly the DeepWind Cluster). Our ongoing collaboration with regional partners, ports, and supply chain organisations is helping to build capability and secure long-term opportunities for companies in fabrication, engineering, marine services, and operations.
